A single woman and her amazing dog in Alaska. Confined to a wheelchair for 15 years from MS, this dog lifted her spirits every day. There is no greater joy, with or without legs.
I heard about them on an NBC 20/20 episode, from my home, amazingly only 5 minutes away from hers. I sent off a proposal to one magazine. Six months later,
they approved the story, but needed it ASAP. I was leaving the country in a week, so I photographed them for 3 days, then wrote and submitted the story from London.
To this day, it remains one of my most inspiring assignments, despite Thea's passing 12 years later. Her story lives on, as well as the potential for any animal to fill any life with purpose and joy.
